I like the message behind Ryan getting the Masterton in recognition of his recovery

I hope the message that other players get is that they'll be supported in their recovery, the hockey world is a big strong family

honestly, this year they should have made an exception and given the trophy to all 3 guys.

i'm super stoked for Ryan, he fought and persevered through adversity that I can't even imagine, and came out stronger on the other side...........but so did the other 2.

Lindblom and Johns both had incredible battles........all 3 were so incredibly deserving, it would have been a really cool thing for the NHL to announce "co-winners" for this award, and you know the 3 players probably would have loved it too.

all that being said, congrats to Bobby for winning, and more importantly, for getting through something like that.

Hopefully next year they do the right thing and make it a shared award for Dumba, Reaves, Nurse, etc...Or maybe create a new award (aka a BLM-inspired award) for those who have to deal with racism. I would also like to see an award for the best ref.

Dumba basically won the King Clancy for this

I think since the voting was in before Lindblom came back, and he really only played the last two playoff games. he has a shot at it next year when he has officially come full circle.

I mean, many thought his career could be done. The chances of him living through it were pretty good, but his career was in serious jeopardy. And yet here he is, less than a year from his cancer diagnosis, back to playing hockey.

Tough kid

Way to go Bobby.

On a side note, I wouldn't be opposed to having Ryan on my team if Sens ate about 2.5m of the cap.

Ek, can I formally apply to be the Coyotes blogger? Here are some reasons why I would love to take over from Tanner:

-I watch the games
-I understand that stats have value, but also limitations
-I know every team in the NHL, not just Toronto and Arizona
-my instincts are 100 times better than Tanner...I knew Domi for Galchenyuk was a bad trade, I knew Kessel was washed up, I knew Keller and Schmaltz were the wrong guys to bet on, I know that something like a goalie's performance is actually influenced by the 5 guys in front of him, I knew the Leafs were poorly constructed, I knew that ideas like putting your bottom 6 guys on the PP so your stars can rest were ridiculous...I could go on and on
-here is a big selling point...I don't want to get paid. Zero. $0.00. In fact, I will pay you. Name a price.
-I also own my home and rent movies, unlike others who rent homes and buy movies. So again, not needing cash. Will give you cash.

Let me know. Thanks for considering me.

Sorry, finally becoming an adult is hardly award material. There were plenty of hockey related comebacks this season that were more deserving. if Ryan gets an award how about an award for everyone that brought home their first million dollar plus payday and DIDN'T decide to snort the first half of it.

Where are the hockey rumours? Who cares about Bobby Ryan. Over rated, over paid. If you are going to talk about Bobby Ryan might as well talk about Robin Lehner as well. We all have demons of some sort.

Not to mention Bobby Ryan is a racist and a bigot. Nice job, NHL, way to stay on-brand.

"Bobby and I are the only two people in the small world of NHL from Cherry Hill, NJ. "

How big a pompous jerk do you have to be to make a statement like that?

I'm totally sold. You can send me 100 bucks and a couple of paragraphs a few times a week. Depending on the quality of the first couple of articles we'll review the price, but that looks like a good starting point for now.
I've also got a few boxes of DVD's I'd be willing to rent you at a reasonable price.

To fill the music quotient, I will regularly invite guest bloggers to review CD's, oh wait, make that to review vinyl records for all those millennial hipsters.

I will also have an semi-annual list of the top 50 movies of all time. So like instead of writing about the Coyotes I'll spend 2 months of every year writing about Terminator and Die Hard.

C'mon Ek. Please let me do it. Like I said, I will pay you. When can I start?

Not everyone gets the same start in life, nor has the same experiences as they grow up. There are people who start off pretty well (good parents, healthy community) and so "becoming an adult"--as you put it--isn't a tremendous endeavor. Individuals who grow up in a healthy environment still deserve respect for maturing properly, but the effort they had to expend to do so isn't the same as for others.

When someone grows up in an environment that teaches the wrong things and emphasizes poor behavior, it takes quite a lot of mental (and sometimes physical) fortitude to "become an adult" in the same fashion.

Ryan's Masterton needs to be contextualized to the environment he's arisen out of, and it's not strange to do that. As a different example, in North America there are people who create billion dollar businesses and those people are worthy of our admiration for that accomplishment; however, if someone does that same thing who was born and raised in the Sahara Desert or the Congo, then that's an even more noteworthy achievement. Think of it like that.
